You will begin this Amazon expedition early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco. A private vehicle will take you on the journey towards the tropical jungle, crossing Andean landscapes that mark the start of a great adventure.
The first stop will be at the Chullpas of Ninamarca, pre-Inca funerary towers located at 3,750 m.a.s.l., where you will learn about the history of ancient peoples and enjoy a spectacular view of the Andes.
Next, you will visit Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial town full of traditions. Stroll through its colorful streets, cross its famous stone bridge, and feel the authenticity of its local culture.
Later, you will reach the Acjanaco sector at 4,000 m.a.s.l., considered the gateway to Manu National Park. From here, you will begin descending into the cloud forest, an ecosystem filled with mist, lush vegetation, and great biodiversity. A short hike will allow you to spot wild flora and fauna such as orchids, heliconias, and ferns.
During this walk, you may encounter the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird, performing its astonishing mating ritual. You will also have the chance to see trogons, quetzals, and, with some luck, the elusive spectacled bear that inhabits this region.
At the end of the day, you will arrive in the town of Pilcopata, located at 550 m.a.s.l. Here, you will stay in a cozy lodge surrounded by nature, with private bathrooms and showers — the perfect place to recharge before continuing the expedition on day two.
After a typical breakfast, you will continue the route by bus to Atalaya, on a 45-minute journey reaching 490 m.a.s.l. From there, a new stage of the Amazon expedition begins as you board a boat for a 30-minute ride along the river to reach the Eco Lodge — an accommodation surrounded by tropical rainforest with private rooms and all the necessary comforts to rest. During the river journey, you will observe the biodiversity of Manu, spotting birds and animals in their natural environment.
After lunch, you will enjoy a unique experience at Machuwasi Lake, a lagoon surrounded by lush vegetation. There you will board a traditional catamaran to explore the richness of local wildlife. Expect to see the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoazin), exotic birds, and with some luck, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and even capybaras, the largest rodents in the world.
At dusk, you will have the option to take part in an exciting activity: night trekking. Walking along jungle trails guided only by the sounds of insects and amphibians, you will discover how wildlife comes alive after dark.
Finally, you will return to the Eco Lodge, where you will rest in a cozy setting with private bathrooms and showers — perfect for relaxing and regaining energy before continuing the adventure on the next day.
Early in the morning, you will board the boat towards the green parrot clay lick, a cliff rich in minerals where several species gather every day. Here you will witness one of the most astonishing spectacles of the Peruvian rainforest: three to four species of parrots meet to feed, filling the sky with their vibrant colors and sounds.
After this unique experience, you will return by boat and begin a hike through the forest. Along the way, you will encounter the giant tree, a true emblem of Amazonian biodiversity, and you may spot birds, monkeys, small reptiles, insects, and with luck, a dwarf caiman in the wetlands. This will be a full day of jungle exploration, perfect for nature and adventure lovers.
In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge to enjoy a comforting lunch. Later, at nightfall, you will have the option to join an exciting night walk in the jungle. During this trek, you will discover how wildlife changes after sunset, hearing intense sounds and observing insects and amphibians that only appear at night.
The day will end at the lodge, where you will rest in comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and showers, surrounded by the calm atmosphere of the rainforest.
After a final delicious breakfast at Eco Lodge, it will be time to say goodbye to this retreat in the heart of nature. You will begin your return journey by boat towards Atalaya, enjoying one last glimpse of the landscapes and sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
At the port, a bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, once again crossing the mysterious cloud forest, a magical environment where mist blends with tropical vegetation, creating a unique atmosphere.
The road back will allow you to relive each experience from this Amazon adventure: the sounds of the jungle, the sighting of wildlife, the breathtaking Amazonian landscapes, and the unforgettable moments shared with fellow travelers and guides.
We estimate arriving in the imperial city of Cusco between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., concluding an unforgettable experience that combines adventure, nature, and culture in the heart of Manu National Park.
