Day 1Explore Iquitos: History, Nature and Culture with Peru Jungle Trips

Our tour begins with pickup by our local bilingual guide at the airport or your hotel.

From there, we’ll embark on an exciting adventure through the Amazon rainforest, visiting the Belén market and floating neighborhood, and exploring the stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife that the Peruvian Amazon has to offer.

At 7 a.m., we’ll start our journey through the streets of García Sáenz and Ramírez Hurtado, where you’ll see a variety of organic products extracted from nature, such as chonta, asaí, aguaje, guaraná, and more.

We’ll then continue on to the spice and condiment zone, where you’ll find cúrcuma, achiote, gengibre, and other spices.

Next, we’ll explore the herbalist’s zone at Pasaje Paquito, where you’ll see a variety of medicinal plants like Jergon Sacha, ajo Sacha, uña de gato, and Ayahuasca.

After that, we’ll continue on to the fishing zone, where you’ll see a variety of fish that inhabit the Amazon River.

We’ll enjoy traditional Amazonian cuisine, including dishes like grilled lagartos, Juanes with tacacho, cecina, and delicious Suris, which are considered a local delicacy. To conclude, we’ll take a 15-minute canoe ride on the Río Itaya to visit the floating neighborhood of Belén, an authentic expression of Amazonian life. From there, we’ll transfer to the Bellavista Ñañay embarkation point.

Nanay

Around 9 am, after boarding the traditional Amazonian boat (bote pamacari, bus amazónico) on the Río Nanay, we’ll meet the sources of the Nanay, Itaya, and Amazonas rivers after just five minutes of navigation.

From this point, you’ll be able to see the contrast between the turbid and black waters created by the union of these rivers as part of the Amazon River.

This sector is home to the pink and gray freshwater dolphins.

Ecomuseum

Continuing with our journey, we will make a stop at the Chullachaki Ecomuseum, where we will learn about Amazonian cultures and ancient instruments, as well as introduce you to the magical world of medicinal and aromatic plants of the Mother Forest.

You will learn about Ayahuasca, a total expression of Amazonian cosmovision.

Here, we will also demonstrate medicinal oils and remedies, and you can enjoy emblematic drinks of the region (such as RC, 7 Roots, 7 Times Without Removing, LPM or “Raise Dead Bird”, etc.).”

After 20 minutes traveling through the Amazon, we will arrive at Fundo Don Pedrito, a breeding center for Paiches in captivity, caimans, and other fish species.

Here, we will have a close encounter with beautiful specimens and learn about their diet. We will then continue navigating until we reach the community of San Juan de Huashalado, a shortcut between the Amazon River and the Río Yanayacu.

From here, we will take a 15-minute hike through the community to reach a new boat on the Río Yanayacu.

We will then navigate for 30 minutes down the river to reach the Yanayacu Eco Lodge.

Afternoon Activities

Once we arrive at the lodge around 2:00 pm, we will distribute the rooms and then go to lunch.

We will take a rowboat canoe ride down the river, listening to the symphony of the forest, waiting for nightfall, and enjoying the beautiful Amazonian sunset.

We will return to our lodge for dinner and rest.

A day finishes in the Iquitos's rainforest.

Day 2Sunrises, Living Nature, and Adventures at Yanayacu Eco Lodge

We will start the day in a canoe to see the sunrise and do some birdwatching around 05:00 am.

After breakfast, we will go on an ethnobotanical hike through the flooded forest, where we can enjoy centuries-old trees such as ceibas, kapok, and Machira Coriáceas. During the hike, we will pass through the natural habitat of monkeys, sloths, and other animals.

Lunchtime around 02:00 pm.

This evening we will be camping, sleeping under the stars, surrounded by the forest, and in connection with nature and the Pachamama (Mother Earth).

As we listen to local legends and stories we’ll enjoy a barbecue dinner outdoors.

After the delicious barbecue, we will go on a short nocturnal hike to look for insects such as tarantulas.

Day 3Fishing for Piranhas, Cultural Encounter, and Stargazing in the Amazon

The day’ll start by breaking down the campsite, cleaning the area, and returning to the lodge to enjoy a delicious breakfast.

We will set out on our boat to fish for piranhas, the voracious and delicious Amazonian fish.

Return to our lodge for a delicious lunch.

We’ll visit the Yanayacu Timicuro farming community and learn about their traditions and customs.

Finally, we’ll have dinner at our lodge and take a relaxing canoe ride down the river to observe the beautiful starry sky.”

Day 4Unique Encounter with Monkeys, Yagua Artisans, and Farewell to Peruvian Amazonian Jungle

After breakfast, we will depart for the monkey island, a primate rescue center where you can interact and play with them.

We will then visit a clan of Yagua Natives, artisans dedicated to selling handicrafts, where they will demonstrate some of their traditional dances.

We will also have the opportunity to swim in the Amazon River as a farewell to our journey.
