You will learn about ancestral medicinal plants such as cat’s claw, ayahuasca, ajo sacha, and jergón sacha, used for generations by Amazon communities. In the fishing area, you will observe fish species native to the Amazon River.
You will also have the opportunity to taste typical dishes such as juanes with tacacho, cecina, suri larvae (considered a local delicacy), and grilled alligator. To end the visit, you will take a canoe ride along the Itaya River to the floating neighborhood of Belén, where you can observe daily life on the water. Afterwards, you will head to the Bellavista Nanay dock.
On the way to the tourist dock, you will learn about the history of Iquitos and its transformation during the Rubber Boom, when it became one of the most important river ports in the Amazon region.

You will then board a safe, traditional boat to begin navigation along the Amazon River, the largest river in the world by volume and one of the New Seven Natural Wonders. Along the way, enjoy views of rainforest landscapes and riverside communities.
The journey ends upon arrival at Yanayacu River Lodge, where you will receive a warm welcome and an introduction to the lodge’s sustainability guidelines, designed to protect the rainforest.

This is the perfect time to connect with the energy of the jungle and observe a wide variety of bird species feeding along the riverbanks or hunting small fish. Throughout the tour, your guide provides detailed explanations about each species and their behavior, offering an educational and fascinating wildlife experience.
Afterward, the boat heads to the opposite side of the river in search of one of the Amazon’s most iconic species: the pink river dolphin, locally known as the “Bufeo Colorado.” This majestic animal is an important symbol of the region’s biodiversity and local legends.
You will then return to the lodge to enjoy breakfast and recharge your energy for the day.
After breakfast, you will visit a traditional sugarcane mill, where you will learn about the tools once used by jungle inhabitants. You will take part in extracting fresh sugarcane juice and taste a local drink known as “leva.” You will also have the chance to sample traditional medicinal and aphrodisiac beverages such as RC, 21 Raíces, SVSS, and Flamingo, making this a unique cultural experience in the Amazon.

Those interested may help prepare their catch with the lodge chef, who will turn the piranhas into authentic Amazonian dishes.
After the activity, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit Monkey Island, one of the most popular attractions near Iquitos. This natural rescue center is home to more than 15 species of monkeys living freely in their natural environment. You will observe their behavior up close and learn about ongoing conservation efforts to protect Amazon wildlife.
