Your Amazon rainforest tour in Iquitos begins with airport pickup according to your flight schedule. If you are already in the city, we will pick you up from your hotel to start this unforgettable adventure in the Peruvian Amazon.

Belén Market

Your first stop is the iconic Belén Market, one of the most authentic places in Iquitos. Here you will experience your first immersion into Amazonian culture, walking among stalls filled with exotic fruits, medicinal plants, fresh fish, and traditional spices.

Around 8:00 a.m., you will walk along García Sáenz and Ramírez Hurtado streets, where you will see organic products such as chonta, açaí, aguaje, and guaraná, all harvested directly from the rainforest. The visit continues into the spice area, surrounded by the aromas of annatto, turmeric, and ginger, essential ingredients in Amazonian cuisine.

The tour then continues to the famous Pasaje Paquito, known for its traditional herbalists. You will learn about ancestral medicinal plants such as cat’s claw, ayahuasca, ajo sacha, and jergón sacha, used for generations by Amazon communities. In the fishing area, you will observe fish species native to the Amazon River.

You will also have the opportunity to taste typical dishes such as juanes with tacacho, cecina, suri larvae (considered a local delicacy), and grilled alligator. To end the visit, you will take a canoe ride along the Itaya River to the floating neighborhood of Belén, where you can observe daily life on the water. Afterwards, you will head to the Bellavista Nanay dock.

Nanay

On the way to the tourist dock, you will learn about the history of Iquitos and its transformation during the Rubber Boom, when it became one of the most important river ports in the Amazon region.

You will then board a safe, traditional boat to begin navigation along the Amazon River, the largest river in the world by volume and one of the New Seven Natural Wonders. Along the way, enjoy views of rainforest landscapes and riverside communities.

Stops during the river navigation

  • Amazon and Nanay Rivers confluence: Observe how the dark waters of the Nanay River meet the lighter waters of the Amazon without immediately mixing, a natural phenomenon perfect for photos.
